GENENERATIONS OF COMPUTER:
GENERATIONS:
There are five generations of computer which are following:
1ST GENERATION:
- ECKERT and MAUCHLY developed the first electronic computer in ENIAC in 1946 in USA.
- Vacume tube is the core element of 1st generation.
- The time period of 1st generation of computer was from 1946 to 1959.
- Consumes lot of electricity.
- It is not portable.
2ND GENERATION:
- The second generation of computer are IBM 700 ATLAC and ICL 1901
- Transistor was the core element of 2nd generation
- The time period of 2nd generation was from 1959 to 1965
- Required less power to operate.
- Smaller reliable and faster than 1st generation of computer.
3RD GENERATION:
- The 3rd generation of computer are IBM 360 NCR 395 TDC developed by JACK KILBY.
- Integrated circuits( Ics) was the core element of the 3rd generation.
- The time period of 3rd generation computer was from 1965 to 1971.
- Development of minicomputer.
- In this generation O.S was developed.
4TH GENERATION:
- The fourth generation of computer are DEC 10 star 1000 etc.
- Large scale integrated circuits was ( LSICS) and (VLSICS).
- The time period of 4th generation computer was from 1971 to 1985.
- Semi conductor were used for primary storage.
- Development of micro computer or PC.
5TH GENERATION:
- The fifth generation of computer are desktop laptop etc.
- Ultra large scale integration (ULSI) was the core element.
- The time period of fifth generation computer is 1985 till date.
- RAM and ROM are used for primary storage.
- All high level programming languages like C++, java ,python etc included.
