WHAT IS OPERATING SYSTEM?

 OPERATING SYSTEM:

Operating system is a collection of set of programs which manage all the resources of computer system.

It is an intermediator between the user and hardware.

Interaction between user and hardware


NOTE:

User knows the high level language. And computer knows the low level language. There is no interaction between the user and hardware. With the help of  operating system the interaction between the hardware and user become possible. Now user does not need to learn lengthy commands. And this is helps the user to convert the low level language to high and high level language to low level language.

  • Scheduling
  • Memory management
  • Security
  • Device management
  • Interact with different software
  • File management
ADVANTAGES:
  • O.S provides GUI ( graphical user interface) in the form of icons botttons and menu.
  • O.S allow us to share the resources to other users.
  • It helps user to understand the computer functions .
  • It is easy to use because it provides GUI.
  • It can be easily updated.
DISADVATAGES:
  • If the O.S is currupted then it will effect the entire system and the system will not work.
  • Only some task run at a time.
